Aion i60 Full Breakdown: $15K Chinese SUV With 1,738 km Range

The 2027 GAC Aion i60 is a 5-seat Chinese compact SUV that, after incentives, starts at about RMB 103,600 (roughly $14,600) in China, and the range-extender version claims up to 1,738 km on a full tank plus a full battery. Big numbers, yes. But they’re all China-cycle numbers, so keep reading before you get hyped.

Okay, real talk. A brand-new family SUV with massage seats, a 15.6-inch screen and a 700 km EV option, for less than the price of a used Corolla in a lot of countries? That’s the Aion i60 pitch. And people are buying it. ChinaEVHome reports it has sold more than 10,000 units a month for six months straight, with 11,027 units in August 2026 alone.

What is the Aion i60, in simple words?

It’s a compact SUV from GAC Aion, the EV arm of Chinese carmaker GAC. It comes as a pure EV or as an EREV (extended-range EV, where a small petrol engine only charges the battery and the motor drives the wheels). It first launched in China in November 2025, and Wikipedia notes it’s heavily based on the second-gen Aion V and is Aion’s first-ever model with a range-extender engine. A VOI report also says it shares its architecture with the Toyota bZ3X.

What’s new in the 2027 model?

The 2027 i60 went on sale on September 15, 2026 with seven variants, per Gasgoo. It’s a facelift, so the exterior stays the same. What changed is the stuff under the skin:

  • Bigger screen: a 15.6-inch 2.5K central display.
  • EREV upgrade: a 45.368 kWh battery (up from 29.165 kWh) and Huawei’s DriveONE motor, which lifts the electric-only range to 350 km, per Gasgoo.
  • New EV trims: the 520 CATL versions plus 700 km versions with GAC’s 77.65 kWh Magazine Battery 2.0.
  • LiDAR trims: a 192-line LiDAR with Qualcomm’s 8650 chip and a WeRide-powered driver-assist system.
  • Charging ports moved to the rear across the lineup.

Aion i60 price: how much does it cost?

Gasgoo lists the 2027 range at RMB 111,600 to RMB 142,800 before incentives, and RMB 103,600 to RMB 134,800 after benefits. At roughly 7.1 RMB per US dollar, that’s about $14,600 to $19,000 after incentives. That’s my rough conversion, so check the live rate. It’s also a China price. It doesn’t include shipping, import duty or dealer margin in your country.

The range numbers: don’t take them at face value

That 1,738 km and 700 km are CLTC numbers, China’s test cycle, which is known to be more generous than WLTP or the US EPA cycle. So your real-world range will be lower, especially on highways and in winter. Even the older version shows the gap: China quoted 210 km of electric range for the first EREV, while Wikipedia cites a WLTC figure of 160 km for the same battery pack. Treat every big range figure as “best case on paper.”

Why is everyone buying it?

Simple: price versus stuff. Gasgoo says it’s aimed at family buyers and will fight rivals like the Geely Galaxy Starship 7 and Leapmotor C10. The brand needed a hit, too. Gasgoo’s earlier coverage describes the i60 as the main engine behind Aion’s sales recovery. And per Wikipedia, the 2027 model got over 5,000 pre-orders within three hours of its September 15 launch, then 20,181 orders in September. Those are orders, not deliveries, so don’t read them as final sales.

What’s actually good, and what’s not

The good stuff

  • Price. Nothing else in this size class with this much kit starts this low.
  • You get both options: a pure EV, or an EREV for people who hate range anxiety.
  • Comfort kit that’s rare at this price: ventilated and massage seats, heated steering wheel, memory functions, panoramic roof, and a 66-litre front trunk on the 520 CATL trim, per Gasgoo.
  • LiDAR and city-assist driving on the higher trims.

The not-so-good stuff

  • It’s still a facelift. The look hasn’t changed from the 2025 model.
  • I haven’t driven it, and I haven’t found independent real-world range or ride tests yet. So ride quality, software lag and build quality are unknowns for now.
  • The driver-assist features (like NOA on city roads) are built for Chinese roads. Don’t assume they’ll work the same elsewhere.
  • The headline price is China-only, with launch incentives.

Will the Aion i60 launch outside China?

That’s the plan. At Auto China 2026, GAC International named the i60 as one of three models for global markets, with a global launch targeted by year-end. GAC’s own January update also says the i60 is set for an overseas debut soon. What I couldn’t find: official overseas prices, specs or country lists. So if someone gives you a “launch date” for your country, ask for the source.

Who should look at it, and who should skip it

Look at it if you want a roomy, feature-packed family SUV on a tight budget, and you like the idea of an EREV with no charging stress.

Skip it (for now) if you need proven reliability data, guaranteed local service and spare parts, or you’re expecting China prices after import costs.

The AutoAkhbar bottom line: On paper, the 2027 Aion i60 is one of the most aggressive value plays in the compact SUV space. On the road outside China? Nobody knows yet. Wait for real tests and real local pricing before you get too excited.
