February 2026 — United States: Stellantis has issued an urgent “Do Not Drive” warning for approximately 225,000 older vehicles in the U.S. that still have unrepaired Takata airbags installed.
This is not a routine recall update. The company is warning drivers to stop using affected vehicles immediately until the defective airbags are replaced.

What’s the Risk?
The recalled Takata airbag inflators can rupture when deployed, sending metal fragments into the cabin. Even a minor crash could trigger the airbag and cause serious injury or death.
The Takata airbag crisis is considered the largest automotive safety recall in U.S. history, linked to dozens of deaths and hundreds of injuries nationwide.
Which Vehicles Could Be Affected?
The warning mainly impacts certain 2003–2016 model year vehicles from Stellantis brands, including:
- Dodge (Ram, Durango, Charger, Challenger)
- Chrysler (300, Aspen)
- Jeep (Wrangler and other select models)
- Mitsubishi Raider (produced with Chrysler)
Only vehicles that have not yet received the free airbag repair are included in this urgent advisory.
How to Check If Your Vehicle Is on the Recall List
- Locate your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) — found on your dashboard near the windshield or inside the driver’s door.
- Enter your VIN on the official NHTSA recall lookup website.
- If your vehicle is listed, do not drive it until the repair is completed.
- Contact your local authorized dealer to schedule a free airbag replacement.
Why This Warning Is Serious
Regulators and Stellantis have been working for years to replace these airbags, but thousands of vehicles remain unrepaired. Officials say the remaining vehicles are among the highest risk because the airbag inflators degrade over time — especially in hot and humid climates.
The repair is completely free, but the danger of ignoring it could be life-threatening.
