The Stick-Shift 2027 Porsche 911 Carrera S Is Back — Here’s What It Costs

The Stick Shift Returns to the Porsche 911 Carrera S

Porsche is bringing the manual gearbox back to the 911 Carrera S, reversing a decision made just a couple of years ago when the seven-speed manual was dropped from the model. For 2027, North American buyers will be able to order the Carrera S with a new MT Package, pairing the model’s 473-horsepower twin-turbo flat-six with a six-speed manual borrowed from the Carrera T.

A Move Driven by Customer Demand

Porsche Cars North America president and CEO Timo Resch framed the reversal as a response to enthusiast pressure, noting that while other manufacturers are walking away from manual gearboxes entirely, Porsche remains committed to offering three pedals for drivers who want them. Resch has previously pointed to strong take-rates as evidence of genuine demand rather than just enthusiast noise — Porsche says more than half of GT3 buyers in North America choose the manual option, a figure that climbs to around 80 percent on the track-focused GT3 Touring.

What Comes With the MT Package

The Carrera S with the MT Package isn’t simply a drivetrain swap. Alongside the six-speed manual, the package adds rear-axle steering, a PASM Sport suspension lowered by 10mm, the Sport Chrono Package and unique exhaust tuning with titanium tips. It’s offered exclusively with rear-wheel drive, available in both coupe and cabriolet body styles, and includes standard touches like a walnut gear-shift knob shared with other special manual 911s.

Weight has been kept in check too: lighter center-lock wheels shave roughly 17 pounds of unsprung mass, helping the manual coupe come in at around 3,327 pounds — just 11 pounds heavier than the lighter, less powerful Carrera T on which the package is based.

Pricing and Availability

The 2027 911 Carrera S with MT Package starts at $167,100 for the coupe and $181,000 for the cabriolet, plus a $2,350 delivery and processing fee, before taxes and options. Orders are open now through Porsche Centers, with first deliveries expected before the end of 2026. Notably, the package is exclusive to North America, meaning buyers elsewhere in the world will continue to be limited to the dual-clutch-only Carrera S.

Porsche’s Wider Manual Strategy

With the manual Carrera S added to the lineup, Porsche now offers seven different manual-equipped variants of the 911, including three built around the track-focused GT3 family. Executives have said the brand intends to keep offering manual gearboxes for as long as it is legally permitted and customers continue to want them, describing steady demand for stick-shift 911s persisting well into the next decade. For a segment where manual take-rates have collapsed into the low single digits across the broader industry, Porsche’s 911 lineup stands out as one of the last strongholds for drivers who still prefer to do their own shifting.
